Problem

The value of $-10 + (-12)$ is

$\text{ (A) }\ 2 \qquad\text{ (B) }\ 22 \qquad\text{ (C) }\ -2 \qquad\text{ (D) }\ -22 \qquad\text{ (E) }\ 120$

Solution

It is important that we check to make sure that our signs are correct in this problem:

$-10 + (-12) = -10 - 12 = \boxed {\textbf {(D) } -22}$
