Spain mathematics competitions

In Spain, several mathematical competitions are organized. In addition, Spain participates in others with its students and teachers at national or regional level.

• The Spanish Mathematical Olympiad (OME), organized by the Royal Spanish Mathematical Society, which has two phases, one local and one national, which every year elects the 6 Spanish representatives in the International Mathematical Olympiad. Both the local and national phases consist of two sessions of 3 problems each, to be solved in 3 and a half hours. • The National Mathematical Olympiad (OMN), organized by the Spanish Federation of Societies of Mathematics Teachers. It comprises three phases: provincial, regional and national. The provincial phase consists of a single exam with 6 problems, while the regional and national phases also include team tests consisting of search for clues, spatial problems, mental calculation, etc.

• The Spring Competition, organized by the Faculty of Mathematical Sciences of the Complutense University of Madrid, for students between 5th year of Primary and 2nd year of Baccalaureate. There are four distinct levels, each covering two school years.

• The Puig Adam Competition, organized in Madrid for students in the 3rd and 4th year of Compulsory Secondary Education and 1st year of Baccalaureate.

• The Liga Matemática, a mathematics competition organized by the National Association of Mathematics Students in which mathematics students from different universities in Spain participate.
